Good skin care plays an important role in treating acne.
ACNE MORNING CARE.
CLEANSING
First step towards good care is cleansing. Never let your face unclean in the morning as secretions accumulate on skin overnight and if left for sometime will worsen the condition. While cleansing an acne face certain aspects has to be kept in mind.
SELECTION OF ACNE CLEANSER
Use some medicated or antiseptic soaps or some facial washes especially formulated for oily skin. Look for the terms "oil-free" and "non-comedogenic" (non-acne aggravating) when selecting a facial cleanser. If you find non- irritating or non- overdrying terms as well this will be an additional benefit.
HOW TO WASH ACNE FACE
Always remember two important things about washing acne areas;
-
Acne is not caused by dirt or poor hygiene so washing face too often is not helpful. Only washing acne areas twice a day will be sufficient. People with blackheads usually consider them to be dirty spots and try to remove them by excessive washing or scrubbing. This is not the right thing.
-
Never rub your skin, this will only harm and worsen the pre existing lesions.
Keeping in mind these points, wash your face with a suitable acne cleanser, using bare hands. Do not try washing clothes for this purpose as it will be harsh to skin. Be kind and be patient. Good cleansing is first step towards "proper acne skin care". Now rinse thoroughly with clear running water. Once again do not rub dry, just pat dry using a clean towel. Always use a separate towel for your face and keep it
away from the reach of others.
Once the face is properly cleansed, you are ready to apply medication, if you are using any.
If you think you just have mild lesions that do not require any medication for the time being or you have stopped using your treatments due to some other reasons, you may use a moisturizer, astringent or sunscreen what so
ever is required;Generally, people with oily skin shouldn't moisturize. If you feel you have to, apply nonocclusive, noncomedogenic, oil-free moisturizer after cleansing.
Exfoliating cleansers and masques: A variety of mild scrubs, exfoliants, and masques can be used. These products contain either fine granules or salicylic acid in a concentration that makes it a very mild peeling agent. These products remove the outer layer of the skin, and thus open pores.
SUN SCREEN Now if some exposure to sunlight is expected apply sun screen. Use especialy formulated sunscreens for acne skin. These are oil-free, noncomedogenic easily easily available over the counter with the label of "acne sun screens".
NIGHT CARE. Repeat cleansing at night to remove any impurities from lengthy day. Apply night acne treatment cream. Never use an emollient over acne areas.
